A fair few years ago when I was studying for my A levels, I came across an amazing artist called Ross Von Rosenberg. His rauschenberg-like paintings are what helped me to gain confidence in creating texture and layering. His work varies a great deal from paintings, to graphics and illustration, he is a real eclectic. The work which I find most influential are his paintings, often visible as works in progress via his Facebook page. They provide interesting compositions with bursts of colour and huge amounts of detail for your eyes to wander over, making them exciting to look at.
I was curious to know what materials he used and some of the ideas behind his work so I emailed him from the school library computers and he replied with no hesitation, informing me of the materials he used and the ideas behind my favourite piece 'I am The City'.It was really nice to gain advice from someone whilst at such an early stage of studying.
"For I Am the City, it was the beginning of finding a bit of a more concise direction for me in my art that I'd seemed to be dancing around for some time. The combining of mulitimedia materials to collage, aspects of traditional painting, abstract painting, and graphic design, as well as compositions that balance areas of extremely dense detail with that of vastly blank negative space."
