Personal Project. False Impressions.

I have had my head down in books for a while now reading through John Berger's theories on women, and I have recently ordered Laura Mulvey's essay titled "Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema".
There are so many ideas surrounding the behaviour of women and how they are viewed by others; particularly men.

I have been looking at social networking sites and it is clear to see that women upload 'profile pictures' of themselves seeking for confirmation that they are attractive. This is the photograph that everyone will see when looking at your profile. It is their first impression of you, and quite often it is a fake one.
Women want people to believe that they are this false perfect version of themselves and when people respond to these images positively it makes us feel pretty even though we know that we very rarely look like this.

When looking through a fashion magazine, I was constantly faced with images of beautiful women advertising different make up and skin products. Presenting me with a false idea that somehow I will look the same if I use these products. Yet the photographs of these women were not realistic either, I found evidence of photo editing when looking at two different advertisements using the same model.

How do we even know if any of these photographs have any resemblance to how the model really looked. How can someone's eyebrows completely change shape, or someone's eyelashes be so much longer? When we try to present the most perfect versions of ourself, we are simply mimicking the models we see in the magazines.
